Gasdermin D as a cellular switch to orientate immune responses via IL-33 or IL-1β
Sun and colleagues describe that, following allergen proteases exposure, the secretion of interleukin-33 is dependent on a novel p40 N-terminal fragment of gasdermin D (GSDMD), whose generation is independent of inflammatory caspase-1 and caspase-11. This event is enabled by the nucleocytoplasmic transport of sequestered IL-33 through Stress Granules (SG) assembly.
