Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

Book Review: Stefan Ecks, Eating Drugs: Psychopharmaceutical Pluralism in India

India and the European Union are in the negotiation process for a Free Trade Agreement. However, as the result of a vote on June 23, 2016, the United Kingdom decided to exit from the European Union, i.e., Brexit. Consequently, bilateral trade costs between the United Kingdom and the European Union will increase both from the newly applicable tariff and non-tariff barriers, which will have a direct impact on trade flows between these two trading partners and an indirect impact on their income growth and on their trading partners. The United Kingdom has been is the most important trading partner for India in the EU, thus the trade deal would not be as beneficial for India as it would have been were the United Kingdom still a member of the European Union. This study attempts to analyze the effects of trade liberalization on the bilateral trade structure between India and the European Union, and the welfare effects both considering the United Kingdom as a member of the European Union and the situation when the United Kingdom exits the European Union. The study found that when United Kingdom is a member of the European Union, both India and the European Union gain more than the situation when the United Kingdom exits the European Union; due to Brexit, India would experience the decline of GDP growth rate from 1.1 to 0.5 percent while the European Union, from 0.1 to -0.5 percent. © 2016-Center for Economic Integration, Sejong Institution, Sejong University, All Rights Reserved.

Brexit and India-EU free trade agreement

Purpose - This paper aims to examine the relationship between the industrial and the service sector outputs at the aggregate level and for different sub-services in India and also tries to find out whether the relationship is changing over time. Design/methodology/approach - This paper studies a panel of 16 major Indian states in India over the period 1980-2011. Using aneconometric analysis, it proceeds toestimate the increasein inter-linkage between the output of the service sector and the output of the industrial sector. This study considers a variable coefficient model where the output elasticity of the service sector with respect to the output of the industrial sector changes with time. The changing element here is considered to be the result of the changing structure of production within these industries. Findings - It has been observed that the output of the services sector at the aggregate level and the output of the industrial sector are highly correlated, and demand generated for services output from the industrial sector over the period 1993-2011 is mostly due to the changing structure of production within these sectors. Originality/value - This paper takes the initiative to estimate the increase in inter-linkage between the output of the service sector and the output of the industrial sector resulting from the changing structure of production within the industrial and the service sectors. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Non-stationary and Spurious Relations Between the Output Levels of the Services and the Commodity Producing Sectors in India: A Reexamination of the Literature

This paper seeks to find whether the shift in the production structure away from agriculture to services is only the result of the change in income status or the changing economic relations among countries has any important role to play here. It tries to find out the factors responsible for the huge expansion of the services output in recent times (1971-2009) considering three different samples (a) a group of developed and developing countries, (b) a group of developing countries, in particular and also (c) the case of India. The paper finds that along with the variables representing changing income status and technological development, policy changes related to globalization and liberalisation are also important but these policy variables can not explain the shift in the output share of the service sector in the 1990s. © 2015 by De Gruyter.

Mental Health Policy in India: Unpacking the ‘Right to Mental Health Care’

Apart from Tamil, Malayalam is the only Dravidian language that still retains a fifth liquid in its inventory denoted as , a sound that can be traced back to Proto-Dravidian. The phonetic and phonological status of this sound has been the subject of considerable debate, both in terms of its rhotic versus lateral status and its phonetic realisation. Studies to date have been impressionistic, so this is the first acoustic study of all five liquids in Malayalam. Production data from 8 male speakers reveal that while is realised as a central post-alveolar approximant, its ambiguous phonotactic patterning and mixed acoustic profile are contributors to its mixed identity. An understanding of the complex patterning of this sound, which straddles the rhotic/lateral divide, requires an appreciation of the role of secondary acoustic resonance in distinguishing members of a crowded liquid system and in preventing a merger. © 2014 S.
