Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute febrile childhood inflammatory disease, associated with coronary artery abnormalities. The disease is believed to result from an aberrant inflammatory response to an infectious trigger in a genetically predisposed individual. KD is associated with an endothelial cell injury as a consequence of T cell activation and cytotoxic effects of various proinflammatory cytokines. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion and aspirin are the standard treatment of acute KD. However, 10–20% of patients show resistance to IVIG therapy and present higher risk of coronary vasculitis. The relative roles of second IVIG infusion, corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, interleukin-1 antagonists and anti-tumor necrosis factor agents remain uncertain. In this review, we highlight the predisposing factors, pathogenesis and therapeutic intervention of KD, particularly new therapeutics for IVIG-resistant patients. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Predisposing factors, pathogenesis and therapeutic intervention of Kawasaki disease

Diagnosis and management of haemophilia patients with inhibitors is often tricky due to the heterogeneous nature of the antibodies with regard to their kinetics, as well as the co-existence of other interfering antibodies. Plasma samples from severe haemophilia A patients from India with and without FVIII inhibitors were analysed for the presence of possible co-existing antibodies such as lupus anticoagulants (LA), anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACLA), anti-β2-glycoprotein-I (anti-β2-GP-I) antibodies, viral transfusion transmitted disease (HIV, HBsAg, HCV) related antibodies, anti-cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP), and anti-nuclear antibodies. A high incidence of LA and anti-HCV antibodies was detected in Indian haemophilia A patients similar to earlier reports. More importantly, a relatively high incidence of autoantibodies to nuclear antigens (18.62%) and anti-CCP antibodies (1.38%) associated with autoimmune disorders was also seen in these congenital haemophilia A patients with and without inhibitors. Knowledge on the antibody profile in these haemophilia patients especially in those with FVIII inhibitors along with correlation with the clinical manifestations and other risk factors for inhibitor development could possibly shed more light on the complex immune response in these patients. © 2015 Elsevier B.V.

IL-26: An Emerging Proinflammatory Member of the IL-10 Cytokine Family with Multifaceted Actions in Antiviral, Antimicrobial and Autoimmune Responses

We investigate the effect of isotope substitution on the electron-phonon interaction in the multiband superconductor MgB2 using tunable laser-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The kink structure around 70 meV in the σ band, which is caused by electron coupling to the E2g phonon mode, is shifted to higher binding energy by ∼3.5 meV in MgB102 and the shift is not affected by superconducting transition. These results serve as the benchmark for investigations of isotope effects in known, unconventional superconductors and newly discovered superconductors where the origin of pairing is unknown. © 2016 American Physical Society.

A NON-CANCELLATION LEMMA FOR GOLDMAN BRACKET

A finite flexible perforated panel set in a differently perforated rigid baffle is considered. The radiation efficiency from such a panel is derived using a 2-D wavenumber domain formulation. This generalization is later used to represent a more practical case of a perforated panel fixed in an unperforated baffle. The perforations are in the form of an array of uniformly distributed circular holes. A complex impedance model for the holes available in the literature is used. An averaged fluid particle velocity is derived using the continuity equation and the surface pressure is derived using an appropriate momentum equation. The discontinuity in the perforate impedance (due to different hole dimensions or perforation ratio) at the panel-baffle interface is carefully taken into account. It is found that there exists a 'coupling' of different wavenumbers of the spatially mean fluid particle velocity field. The change in the resonance frequencies and the modeshapes of the panel due to the perforations is taken into account using the Receptance method. Analytical expressions for the radiated power and radiation efficiency are derived in an integral form and numerical results are presented. Several comparisons are made to understand the radiation efficiency curves. Since both the resistive and reactive components of the hole impedance are taken into account, the model is directly applicable to micro-perforated panels also. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd. Sound radiation from a perforated panel set in a baffle with a different perforation ratio

Certain capacity degradation levels increase travel times on road networks, while traffic demand remains met. Resilience of a road network is higher, if it can take-in higher levels of degradation without leaving any part of the demand unmet. It is important for planners to quantify this, and it can be obtained as the output of an optimization problem. The resultant measure of resilience is demand-specific. To generalize the resilience measure, its sensitivity to change in demand should be studied. We observe that irrespective of the difference in network size or network topology, resilience decreases with increase in demand. We perform computational experiments on different network topologies to investigate the relationship between network resilience and traffic demand. Based on this, we introduce the area under the demand-resilience curve as a generalized index of resilience (GIR). We compare the GIR with traditional network indicators and find that it is in certain ways, better. © 2016 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Effect of traffic demand variation on road network resilience

Treatment of [M2(μ-Cl)2(cod)2] (M=Ir and Rh) with Na[H2B(bt)2] (cod=1,5-cyclooctadiene and bt=2-mercaptobenzothiazolyl) at low temperature led to the formation of dimetallaheterocycles [(Mcod)2(bt)2], 1 and 2 (1: M=Ir and 2: M=Rh) and a borate complex [Rh(cod){κ2-S,S′-H2B(bt)2}], 3. Compounds 1 and 2 are structurally characterized metal analogues of 1,5-cyclooctadiene. Metal–metal bond distances of 3.6195(9) Å in 1 and 3.6749(9) Å in 2 are too long to consider as bonding. In an attempt to generate the Ru analogue of 1 and 2, that is [(Rucod)2(bt)2], we have carried out the reaction of [Ru(Cl)2(cod)(CH3CN)2] with Na[H2B(bt)2]. Interestingly, the reaction yielded agostic complexes [Ru(cod)L{κ3-H,S,S′-H2B(bt)2}], 4 and 5 (4: L=Cl; 5: L=C7H4NS2). One of the key differences between 4 and 5 is the presence of different ancillary ligands at the metal center. The natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis of 1 and 2 shows that there is four lone pairs of electrons on each metal center with a significant amount of d character. Furthermore, the electronic structures and the bonding of these complexes have been established on the ground of quantum-chemical calculations. All of the new compounds were characterized by IR,1H,11B,13C NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallographic analysis. © 2016 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim
