Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

Oman shows a substantial development during the 21st century. The country has made a considerable growth on various industries which contributes to the growing economy of the state. Among which the infrastructure development contributes a significant value. The government of Oman has enacted a localization policy called "Omanisation" which aimed at replacing expat worker with trained Omani personnel. The implementation of Omani policy was applied to lower the unemployment rates for Omani citizens. Further, the Omanisation allows Oman to be self-reliant in human resources by decreasing dependency on expatriates. The Ministry of Manpower has taken considerable amount of steps to achieve the targeted omanisation policy through introducing the new laws and rules for the human resources recruitments. However, there are limitations induced by the factors which prevents to achieve the targeted localisation metrics. This paper aims at assessing the achievement of the policy has had over the years in various sectors. Further, this paper also discusses the factors against the implementaion of localisation which are pertained to omani Quantity Surveying (QS) profession in detail. The author has adopeted various data collection techniques such as interviews questionaire survey and archival data analysis to unwind the fact regarding the challenges of the localisation policy facing in recent past years for the QS profession. The paper also recommends the posible ways to overcome these difficulties and sustains the localisation in QS profession.

Sustaining the localization of quantity surveying profession in Sultanate of Oman

Land treatment of municipal wastewater effluent is a proven method for augmenting freshwater resources and avoiding direct nutrient discharges to surface waters. We assessed changes in soil test phosphorus (P) of the Ap horizon of cropped fields continuously irrigated for 26 yr with secondary effluent from the Penn State University wastewater treatment plant. For annual P additions averaging 97 kg P ha-1, Mehlich-3 P (M3P) response in the 0- to 20-cm surface soil (initially &lt;20 mg kg-1) was represented by two lines. For the first 12 yr of irrigation, soil test P increased, with 14.5 kg P ha-1 needed to increase M3P by 1 mg P kg-1. After the initial buildup, M3P maintained a quasi-steady-state value of ∼110 mg kg-1. Over time, the surface soil equilibrium P concentration at zero sorption increased markedly (from &lt;1 to 5.5 mg P L-1), and extractable aluminum (Al) decreased significantly (P &lt; 0.001). Speciation modeling using Visual MINTEQ suggests complexation of Al by dissolved organic carbon at site pH conditions. Loss of Al from the surface layer lowered its P-sorbing capacity, causing added effluent-P to move into the subsoil. Results suggest that current management practices can continue for many years without exceeding the surface soil M3P environmental threshold (200 mg kg-1) used in state P-based nutrient policies. Long-term phosphorus fertility in wastewater-irrigated cropland

This paper describes the dynamic modelling, simulation and control of an underwater vehicle equipped with two degrees of freedom (DOF) planar underwater manipulator with all its joints revolute. Performance analysis of underwater vehicle and manipulator tracking control in spatial co-ordinates are done using numerical simulations. A PID controller based feedback linearization control design is developed for the underwater vehicle and manipulator. Controlled movement in surge (xdirection), sway (y-direction) and heave (z-direction) directions is achieved for the underwater vehicle and controlled movement in x-z (global) plane is achieved for the underwater manipulator, both with respect to inertial frame of reference. Simulation of tracking control of the robot using cubic polynomial equation based trajectory planning is done. © 2011 IEEE.

Dynamic modelling, simulation and spatial control of an underwater robot equipped with a planar manipulator

This paper addresses the problem of trajectory tracking control of an underactuated autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in the horizontal plane. The underwater vehicle under consideration is not actuated in the sway direction, and the system matrices are not assumed to be diagonal and linear, as often found in the literature. In addition, the effect of constant bias of environmental disturbances is considered. Using backstepping techniques and the tracking error dynamics, the system states are stabilized by forcing the tracking errors to an arbitrarily small neighborhood of zero. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is demonstrated through numerical simulations. Simulations are carried out for an experimental vehicle for smooth, inertial, two dimensional (2D) reference trajectories such as constant velocity trajectory (a circle maneuver - constant yaw rate), and time varying velocity trajectory (a sinusoidal path - sinusoidal yaw rate).

Planar tracking control of an underactuated autonomous underwater vehicle

Quantum discord (QD) is a general measure of bipartite quantum correlations with a potential role in quantum information processing tasks. Spin clusters serve as ideal candidates for the implementation of some of the associated protocols. In this paper, we consider a symmetric spin trimer and a tetramer which describe a number of known molecular magnets and compute the QD in the ground and thermal states of the clusters. The variations of the QD as a function of an anisotropy parameter, magnetic field and temperature are investigated. We obtain a number of interesting results such as a finite value of the QD in the trimer ground state for which the pairwise entanglement is known to be zero, differences in the nature of some of the variations in the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic cases, and discontinuous jumps in the magnitude of the QD at first-order quantum phase transition points. A remarkable feature that is observed is that the QD completely vanishes only in the asymptotic limit of temperature T → ∞. We further study the dynamics of the QD and the pairwise entanglement at T = 0 under the effect of a dephasing channel describing the interaction of the reduced spin cluster state with independent local environments. The QD is found to vanish asymptotically as t → ∞. In the case of the spin trimer, the pairwise entanglement has a zero value at all times and reaches a zero value in a finite time in the case of the tetramer. © 2011 IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper, we consider the problem of modelling the average delay in an IEEE 802.11 DCF wireless mesh network with a single root node under light traffic. We derive expression for mean delay for a co-located wireless mesh network, when packet generation is homogeneous Poisson process with rate . We also show how our analysis can be extended for non-homogeneous Poisson packet generation. We model mean delay by decoupling queues into independent M/M/1 queues. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the analytical results. © 2011 IEEE.

Delay modelling for a single-hop wireless mesh network under light aggregate traffic

Elemental identification of material is a prime most important in material science field. Electric discharge is used for material elemental identification with optical emission spectroscopy. During electric discharge machining between two electrodes plasma is generated which emits intense radiation in the UV-Visible region. The generated plasma captured by optical emission spectroscopic technique and elements are identified from recorded spectra by matching with standard NIST database. This method is simple, rapid, and inexpensive compared to all other elemental identification method. The elements of the metal, semiconductors, even insulators can be identified without much difficulty. Elemental identification of materials using optical emission spectra during electric discharge machining

This paper presents the detailed modelling and simulation of the dynamic coupling in an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV)-manipulator system, used for deep-sea intervention tasks. The interaction effects due to damping, restoring and inertial effects of a single degree of freedom (DOF) manipulator mounted on an underactuated AUV are analysed. The actuator and sensor dynamics of the system are also considered. The linear and angular position errors of the vehicle and the manipulator due to the interaction effects between them are also investigated and the results are presented. A model reference adaptive control (MRAC) scheme is proposed to compensate the above mentioned errors. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated using numerical simulations along with comparative study between conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control. The robustness of the proposed control scheme is also illustrated with numerical study in the presence of external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. © 2011 ICROS.

Modelling, simulation and model reference adaptive control of autonomous underwater vehicle-manipulator systems

We propose a novel algorithm for velocity reconstruction from staggered data on arbitrary polygonal staggered meshes. The formulation of the new algorithm is based on a constant polynomial reconstruction approach in conjunction with an iterative defect correction method and is referred to as the IDeC(k) reconstruction. The algorithm is designed for second order accuracy of the reconstructed velocity field and also leads to a consistent estimate of velocity gradients. Accuracy, convergence and robustness of the new algorithm are studied on different mesh topologies and the need for higher-order reconstruction is demonstrated. Numerical experiments for several cases including incompressible viscous flows establish the IDeC(k) reconstruction as a generic, fast, robust and higher-order accurate algorithm on arbitrary polygonal meshes. © 2011 Elsevier Inc.
