Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

Background Adherence to oral anticancer medication is important in cancer chemotherapy, with the advent of many oral anticancer regimens to ensure adequate cytologic response. Literature on adherence to oral anticancer therapy in India is very less. Materials and Methods This is a cross sectional analytical study consisting of all fit patients > 18 years of age taking oral anticancer therapy, with or without intravenous (IV) chemotherapy. Adherence was determined using Morisky-Green-Levine (MGL) scale, and factors affecting adherence details about cancer and treatment were obtained. All fit patients were recruited. Information was obtained using Tamil questionnaire and pro forma. Observation Of 152 patients, only 111 patients were found to be adherent to treatment. The mean age of the study population was 49.03 13.48 years. Only 12.5\% of patients were aware of the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome. The study population consisted mainly of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, colorectal carcinoma, breast carcinoma, and stomach carcinoma, which amounted for 78.3\% of the study population. Bivariate analysis concluded that duration of treatment, adverse drug reaction (ADR), duration of oral anticancer drug intake in a month, coadministration with IV anticancer drugs, and frequency of drug intake (anticancer drug) were significant factors affecting drug adherence. Multivariate analysis of the above variables was insignificant, but ADR tended toward significance. Conclusion Drug adherence plays a major role in treatment outcome in cancer patients. ADR was independently associated with decreased drug adherence. Key interventions which should include counseling and behavioral modifications will reduce nonadherence.

Assessment of Oral Anticancer Medication Adherence: A Survey from a Tertiary Cancer Center

The emerging paradigm shift from ‘one molecule, one target, for one disease’ towards ‘multi-targeted small molecules’ has paved an ingenious pathway in drug discovery in recent years. We extracted this idea for the investigation of drugs for COVID-19. Perceiving the importance of organosulfur compounds, seventy-six known organosulfur compounds were screened and studied for the interaction with multiple SARS-CoV-2 target proteins by molecular dynamics simulation. Lurasidone and its derivatives displayed substantial binding affinity against five proteins (Mpro, PLpro, Spro, helicase and RdRp). The pharmacokinetics, ADMET properties and target prediction studies performed in this work further potentiates the effectiveness against SARS-CoV-2. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

An in-silico study on selected organosulfur compounds as potential drugs for SARS-CoV-2 infection via binding multiple drug targets

The synthesis of 3-amino-1,8-naphthalimide Tröger's base's (TBNaps) 2–4, possessing several amino acids at the imide terminus, from the corresponding 3-amino-1,8-naphthalimide (Naps) units is described. The solid-state X-ray crystal structure of the related 3-amino-TBNaps piperidino-ethyl derivative 1, and its supramolecular packing is also outlined. In these molecules (as demonstrated from the X-ray structure of 1), the two Naps units have an orthogonal arrangement that makes them potentially attractive β-turn mimics for incorporation into peptide and polypeptide structures. The ground and the excited state properties of these systems were evaluated in a range of solvents that varied by polarity and hydrogen bonding ability. This investigation demonstrated that all three compounds possess Internal Charge Transfer (ICT) excited state properties. © 2021 The Author(s)

This chapter summarizes the recent advances in the electrochemical detection of toxic chemicals with the use of metal oxide-metal nanocomposites as the electrochemical sensing platform. The study of toxic chemicals was classified into the following five major groups: endocrine disrupting chemicals, pesticides and disinfectants, environmental pollutants, mycotoxins, and volatile organic compounds. Electrochemical (amperometric, voltametric, and impedimetric) sensor systems made up of metal oxide-metal nanocomposites are systematically reviewed. A metal oxide-metal nanocomposite as an entity provides augmented characteristics compared to the original constituents due to the synergism between the metal nanoparticles and the metal oxide derivatives. The resultant nanocomposites furnish an enriched active surface area, better adsorption ability, and improved electrocatalytic activity. As a result, the sensor systems not only engender subfemtomolar detection limits but also thrive in a widespread concentration range along with much better selectivity. Integration of nanocomposites with electroanalytical systems is extensively sought after to harvest various features, such as miniaturization, rugged instrumentation with no mechanical parts, portable on-site analysis, multiplex analysis, automation, tunable microprobes apt for in vivo analysis, etc., in the developed sensor systems. It is anticipated that this chapter will help electrochemists to deliberate innovative combinations of metal oxides and metal nanoparticles along with other advanced functional materials while constructing electrochemical sensor systems for on-site analysis of any necessary analyte. © 2021 Elsevier Inc. Corrigendum: Recyclable Ruthenium Catalyst for Distal meta -C−H Activation (Chemistry – A European Journal, (2020), 26, 66, (15290-15297), 10.1002/chem.202003622)

Reactions of the hindered N-heterocyclic carbene,:C{(MesNCH)2} (IMes; Mes = mesityl), with a series of β-diketiminatomagnesium(II) hydride and dimagnesium(I) complexes were carried out at 80 °C. The reactions involving the magnesium hydrides, [{(ArNacnac)Mg(μ-H)}2] [ArNacnac = [(ArNCMe)2CH]-, where Ar = 2,6-diethylphenyl (Dep) or 2,6-diisopropylphenyl (Dip)], proceeded via activation of an exocyclic C-N bond of IMes, giving magnesium imidazolyl compounds [(ArNacnac)Mg(μ-H)(μ-Imid)Mg(ArNacnac)] (Imid = [NC2H2N(Mes)C]-) and mesitylene. A low-yield IMes methyl C-H activation product, [(DepNacnac)Mg(IMes-H)], was also obtained, via H2 elimination, from the reaction between IMes and [{(DepNacnac)Mg(μ-H)}2]. Reactions between IMes and dimagnesium(I) compounds [{(ArNacnac)Mg}2] [Ar = 2,6-dimethylphenyl (Xyl) or Mes] afforded isostructural C-H activation products [(ArNacnac)Mg(IMes-H)] but in higher yields. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the reactions do not progress via stable adduct complex intermediates, which are sterically inaccessible. © 2021 American Chemical Society. C–N and C–H Activation of an N-Heterocyclic Carbene by Magnesium (II) Hydride and Magnesium (I) Complexes

Reactions of two magnesium(I) compounds, [{(ArNacnac)Mg}2] (ArNacnac=[HC(MeCNAr)2]−; Ar=mesityl (Mes) or o-xylyl (Xyl)), with CO in the presence of [Mo(CO)6] lead to the reductive hexamerization of CO and formation of magnesium benzenehexolate complexes, [{(ArNacnac)Mg}6(C6O6)]. [Mo(CO)6] is not consumed in these reactions, but is apparently required to initiate (or catalyze) the CO hexamerizations. A range of studies were used to probe the mechanism of formation of the benzenehexolate complexes. The magnesium(I) reductive hexamerizations of CO are closely related to Liebig's reduction of CO with molten potassium (to give K6C6O6, amongst other products), originally reported in 1834. As the mechanism of that reaction is still unknown, it seems reasonable that magnesium(I) reductions of CO could prove useful homogeneous models for its elucidation and for the study of other C−C bond forming reactions that use CO as a C1 feedstock (e.g. the Fischer–Tropsch process). © 2020 Wiley-VCH GmbH

Reductive Hexamerization of CO Involving Cooperativity Between Magnesium(I) Reductants and [Mo(CO)6]: Synthesis of Well-Defined Magnesium Benzenehexolate Complexes**

Oil spill is also a form of pollution that creates adverse effects on the environment. This project emphasis on design and fabrication of the Semi-Autonomous oil spills removing robot. By navigating on the surface of water, the robot proposes a new system for skimming of oil and removing oil spills from the ocean sur-face. The main aim of the project is to reduce the man power, time consumption and improve the quality of oil cleaning in the ocean. In this project, automation of the oil spill cleaning process is achieved with the help of a magnetic conveyor and magnetite powder. The flexible magnetic conveyor containing magnetite powder in the belt softly rolls over the ocean's surface, and absorbs the oil along with the magnetite powder and deflecting the ocean water with its hydrophobic properties. Fabrication and performance evaluation of semi-autonomous oil spills removing robot

The design and development of biosensors, analytical devices used to detect various analytes in different matrices, has emerged. Biosensors indicate a biorecognition element with a physicochemical analyzer or detector, i.e., a transducer. In the present scenario, various types of biosensors have been deployed in healthcare and clinical research, for instance, biosensors for blood glucose monitoring. Pathogenic microbes are contributing mediators of numerous infectious diseases that are becoming extremely serious worldwide. The recent outbreak of COVID-19 is one of the most recent examples of such communal and deadly diseases. In efforts to work towards the efficacious treatment of pathogenic viral contagions, a fast and precise detection method is of the utmost importance in biomedical and healthcare sectors for early diagnostics and timely countermeasures. Among various available sensor systems, optical biosensors offer easy-to-use, fast, portable, handy, multiplexed, direct, real-time, and inexpensive diagnosis with the added advantages of specificity and sensitivity. Many progressive concepts and extremely multidisciplinary approaches, including microelectronics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMSs), nanotechnologies, molecular biology, and biotechnology with chemistry, are used to operate optical biosensors. A portable and handheld optical biosensing device would provide fast and reliable results for the identification and quantitation of pathogenic virus particles in each sample. In the modern day, the integration of intelligent nanomaterials in the developed devices provides much more sensitive and highly advanced sensors that may produce the results in no time and eventually help clinicians and doctors enormously. This review accentuates the existing challenges engaged in converting laboratory research to real-world device applications and optical diagnostics methods for virus infections. The review’s background and progress are expected to be insightful to the researchers in the sensor field and facilitate the design and fabrication of optical sensors for life-threatening viruses with broader applicability to any desired pathogens. © 2021 by the authors.
