Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

Label noise can have severe negative effects on the performance of a classifier. Such noise can either arise by adversarial manipulation of the training data or from unskilled annotators frequently encountered in crowd sourcing (e.g. Amazon mechanical turk). Based on the assumption that an expert has provided some fraction of the training data, where labels can be assumed to be true, we propose a new pre-processing method to identify and correct noisy labels via a mutual consistency check using a Parzen window classifier. While the resulting optimization problem turns out to be a combinatorial problem, we design an efficient algorithm for which we provide approximation guarantees. Extensive experimental evaluation shows that our method performs similar and often much better than existing methods for the detection of noisy labels, thus leading to a boost in performance of the resulting classifiers.

This paper addresses the working principal of a sitting/lying type passive lower limb rehabilitation robot (LLRR) where patients legs are connected with a passive serial manipulator(orthoses) which consists of three rotary joints serially connected in a plane (RRR), with an active feedback, driven by a three degrees of freedom (DOF) parallel manipulator looks like a symbol The Lambda. The kinematics of the proposed rehabilitation robot has been presented and discussed. Kinematic analysis of a passive sitting/lying type lower limb rehabilitation robot

El Ni{\~{n}}o Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one of the major climate variability cycles around the world and is responsible for droughts in the Southeast United States. These ENSO- induced droughts have been responsible for agricultural losses, water disputes and promotion of water restrictions in the Southeast. In the Apalachicola- Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River Basin, in addition to drought, rapid population growth, urban sprawl and increased agricultural production are threatening the availability of freshwater resources and causing endangered species concerns. As a result, Alabama, Georgia and Florida have been fighting over the allocation of ACF River Basin water for the past two decades. The water conflict heats up every time there is drought in the basin. This research was conducted to study the effects of ENSO- induced droughts and irrigation pumpage on groundwater levels and groundwater budget components of the Upper Floridan Aquifer (UFA) in the lower ACF River Basin. Results indicate that ENSO exhibits teleconnection with groundwater levels in the UFA. The teleconnection was more prominent during the winter season. The study also found that prolonged droughts severely affect groundwater levels and the groundwater recovery periods can be as much as 2 years. The groundwater model, MODular Finite-Element Model (MODFE), was used to study the effect of irrigation water withdrawal during droughts years of 2010 – 2012. The results showed that groundwater levels and stream-aquifer flux are affected by irrigation water withdrawal. Most of the irrigation water pumped is contributed by loss in aquifer storage and losses in stream-aquifer flux. The results also showed that irrigation during the year 2012resulted in groundwater levels to fall by as much as 6 ft and in areas with endangered species concerns. Finally, MODFE was also used to study the effect of possible future increased irrigation levels on groundwater levels and stream-aquifer flux in the study area during the drought water year of 2012. The effect of application of irrigation restrictions in vulnerable regions was also studied. Results showed that elevated irrigation levels severely affect groundwater levels in the vulnerable regions. Doubling of irrigation resulted in as much as 11 ft decline in groundwater levels in the Spring Creek subwatershed. Additionally, the study also found that irrigation water-withdrawal exhibits a linear relationship with stream-aquifer flux in the study area.

Anthropogenic and Climate Impacts on Groundwater Resources in the Lower Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin

Thermolysis of an in situ generated intermediate [(Cp∗Ta)2(BH3)2Cl2], 1 generated from the reaction of [Cp∗TaCl4], (Cp∗ = η5-C5Me5) and [LiBH4•thf], in presence of [Ru3(CO)12] yielded pileo-[Cp∗TaCl(μ-Cl)-B2H4Ru3(CO)8], 2 having two electrons fewer than seven pairs required for the observed square pyramidal geometry. Cluster 2 is the first example of an unsaturated cluster comprising early and late transition metals in a square pyramid core. This reaction also yielded [(Cp∗Ta)2(B2H6)(B2H4Cl2)], 3 as a by-product. In addition, the reaction of [Cp∗MoCl4] (Cp∗ = η5-C5Me5) with [LiBH4·thf] in presence of excess [MeI] at mild condition led to the isolation of periodinated dimolybdatetraborane [(Cp∗Mo)2B4H3I5], 4 that hints a possible existence of [(Cp∗Mo)2B4H8]. After the isolation of periodinated 4, we extended this chemistry towards the late transition metallaborane [(Cp∗Rh)3B4H4], 5 using [PtBr2] as brominating source. Although all the attempts to isolate perbrominated rhodaborane failed, we have isolated partially brominated rhodaborane clusters [(Cp∗Rh)3(BH)-(BBr)3], 6 and [(Cp∗Rh)3(BH)3(BBr)], 7. All the compounds were characterized by IR and 1H, 11B and 13C NMR spectroscopy in solution and the solidstate structures of 2, 4 and 6 were established by crystallographic analysis. © 2014 IUPAC & De Gruyter.

Chemistry of early and late transition metallaboranes: synthesis and structural characterization of periodinated dimolybdaborane [(Cp* Mo) 2B4H3I5]

In an objective to synthesize metallaheteroboranes containing heavier chalcogen atoms, we performed the reaction of dimetallaborane analogues of pentaborane(9) with various chalcogen sources. As a result, the thermolysis of nido-[1,2-(Cp∗RuH)2B3H7], 1 (Cp∗ = η5-C5Me5) with mixture of S and Se powder was carried out, that led to the isolation of half sandwich dimetallaheteroborane arachno-[(1,2-Cp∗Ru)2B2H6S2], 2. On the other hand, the reaction of nido-1 with diorganyldichalcogenide ligands, [Ph2E2] afforded chalcogen bridged half sandwich complexes [(2,3-Cp∗Ru)2B3H6(μ-η1-EPh)], 4a-c (4a: E = S; 4b: E = Se and 4c: E = Te). Compound 2 can be derived from a closo-snub disphenoid by removing a 5-connect vertex followed by the removal of a 3-connect vertex. Compound 4a-c can be described as nido-square pyramidal structures, isoelectronic and isostructural with nido-1. All the compounds have been characterized by mass spectrometry, 1H, 11B and 13C spectroscopy. Further, the geometry of compounds 2, 3, 4b and 4c were unequivocally established by crystallographic analysis. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Diruthenium analogues of Hexaborane(12) and Pentaborane(9): Synthesis and structural characterization of [(1,2-Cp∗Ru)2B2H6S2] and [(2,3-Cp∗Ru)2B3H6(μ-η1-EPh)], (E = S, Se and Te) (Cp∗ = η5-C5Me5)

A fast and facile electrochemical sensor for the detection of an important anti-cancer drug, 5-fluorouracil, is fabricated using a gold nanoparticle decorated multiwall carbon nanotube (GNP-MWCNT) composite modified electrode. GNP-MWCNT composite has been prepared by a simple one-pot synthesis in the presence of chitosan, which acts as a reducing as well as stabilizing agent. Synthesized GNP-MWCNT is characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, XRD analysis and FESEM for the structural and chemical properties of nanocomposite, and the size of the gold nanoparticles is determined to be ∼30 nm by different methods. The electrochemical capability of the fabricated GNP-MWCNT composite modified electrode for the detection of 5-FU is examined by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance analysis and differential pulse voltammetry. The nanoAu decorated carbon nanotube electrode is found to be efficient for electrocatalytic oxidation of 5-FU. Peak current of the DPVs exhibited a linear relationship against 5-FU over a wide concentration range of 0.03-10 μM with a low-detection-limit (3σ/b) of 20 nM, and the analysis time is as low as 25 s. Practical utility of the developed GNP-MWCNT nanocomposite biosensor has been demonstrated for the detection of 5-FU directly from artificial urine and pharmaceutical formulations with good recovery limits. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.

Biopolymer Stabilized Nanogold Particles on Carbon Nanotube Support as Sensing Platform for Electrochemical Detection of 5-Fluorouracil in-vitro

Several independent observations have suggested that the catastrophe transition in microtubules is not a first-order process, as is usually assumed. Recent in vitro observations by Gardner et al. [M. K. Gardner, Cell 147, 1092 (2011)CELLB50092-867410.1016/j.cell.2011.10.037] showed that microtubule catastrophe takes place via multiple steps and the frequency increases with the age of the filament. Here we investigate, via numerical simulations and mathematical calculations, some of the consequences of the age dependence of catastrophe on the dynamics of microtubules as a function of the aging rate, for two different models of aging: exponential growth, but saturating asymptotically, and purely linear growth. The boundary demarcating the steady-state and non-steady-state regimes in the dynamics is derived analytically in both cases. Numerical simulations, supported by analytical calculations in the linear model, show that aging leads to nonexponential length distributions in steady state. More importantly, oscillations ensue in microtubule length and velocity. The regularity of oscillations, as characterized by the negative dip in the autocorrelation function, is reduced by increasing the frequency of rescue events. Our study shows that the age dependence of catastrophe could function as an intrinsic mechanism to generate oscillatory dynamics in a microtubule population, distinct from hitherto identified ones. © 2015 American Physical Society.
