Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

This paper proposes an active soft-switching circuit for bridge converters aiming at improving the power conversion efficiency. The proposed circuit achieves loss-less switching for both main and auxiliary switches without increasing the main device current/voltage rating. It is capable of operating at elevated switching frequencies of several hundreds of kHz, at low and high power levels with a wide range of load variations. A winding coupled to the primary of power transformer ensures soft switching for the auxiliary switches during turn-on and turn-off. Phase Shifted Full Bridge (PSFB) topology is chosen to validate the design. Operation principle with analytical expressions for the proposed circuit are outlined. The proposed active soft switched PSFB DC-DC converter circuit is designed and implemented for 350 W, switching at 100 kHz. The simulation and experimental results are presented. Experimental results are used to validate the analysis. © 2012 IEEE.

Uniqueness of nonnegative solutions for semipositone problems on exterior domains

Vertex cover and odd cycle transversal are minimum cardinality sets of vertices of a graph whose deletion makes the resultant graph 1-colorable and 2-colorable, respectively. As a natural generalization of these well-studied problems, we consider the Graph r-Partization problem of finding a minimum cardinality set of vertices whose deletion makes the graph r-colorable. We explore further connections to Vertex Cover by introducing Generalized Above Guarantee Vertex Cover, a variant of Vertex Cover defined as: Given a graph G, a clique cover K of G and a non-negative integer k, does G have a vertex cover of size at most k +Σ CεK(|C| - 1)? We study the parameterized complexity hardness of this problem by a reduction from r-Partization. We then describe sequacious fixed-parameter tractability results for r-Partization, parameterized by the solution size k and the required chromaticity r, in perfect graphs and split graphs. For Odd Cycle Transversal, we describe an O*(2 k) algorithm for perfect graphs and a polynomial-time algorithm for co-chordal graphs. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Impacts of energy cane expansion on ecosystem services: A Florida case study

The closure dynamics of a pre-equilibrated DNA denaturation bubble is studied using both Brownian dynamics simulations and an analytical approach. The numerical model consists of two semi-flexible interacting single strands (ssDNA) and a bending modulus which depends on the base-pair state, with double-strand DNA (dsDNA) segments being 50 times stiffer than ssDNA ones. For DNA lengths from N=20 to 100 base-pairs (bp) and initial bubble sizes of N-6 bp, long closure times of 0.1 to 4 μs are found, following a scaling law in N 2.4. The bubble starts to close by a fast zipping which stops when the bubble reaches a highly bent metastable state of length around 10 bp. The limiting final step to complete closure is controlled by the dsDNA "arms" rotational diffusion, with closure occurring once they are nearly aligned. The central role of chain bending, which cannot be accounted for in one-dimensional models, is thus illuminated. Copyright © 2012 EPLA.

Strand diffusion-limited closure of denaturation bubbles in DNA

A new nonlinear disturbance observer based tracking control scheme for an underwater manipulator is presented in this paper. This observer overcomes the disadvantages of existing disturbance observers, which are designed or analyzed by the linear system techniques. The performance of the proposed tracking control scheme is demonstrated numerically by the payload compensation and interaction effects compensation for a two degrees of freedom vertical underwater manipulator. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

A nonlinear disturbance observer based adaptive control scheme for an underwater manipulator

An indirect adaptive control for an autonomous underwater vehiclemanipulator system (UVMS) based on an extended Kalman filter (EKF) is presented in this paper. This method overcomes the disadvantages of existing disturbance observers and direct adaptive control schemes, which are designed or analyzed by linear system techniques and regressor-based techniques. The proposed control scheme can be applied to UVMS' for various purposes such as payload compensation, interaction effects compensation, underwater current or external disturbance compensation and independent system control. The performance of the proposed controller is demonstrated numerically by the payload compensation and disturbance (underwater current) compensation for an UVMS consisting of a six degrees of freedom (6-DOF) underwater vehicle and a 3-DOF underwater manipulator.
