Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

The full control of site selectivity in C-H activation is paramount for the programmed late-stage functionalization of structurally complex structures. During the past decade, directing groups have revolutionized molecular synthesis in terms of ortho-selective C-H activation. In sharp contrast, a selectivity switch that guides the typical ortho- to remote meta-C-H activation has thus far proven elusive. Herein, we describe the realization of such a concept for a robust selectivity control in ruthenium catalysis. The distal C-H transformation was guided by key mechanistic insights into the mild, synergistic action of carboxylates and phosphines in ruthenium(II) catalysis. Our findings allowed remote selectivity in broadly effective late-stage diversification of structurally complex drugs and natural product molecules, tolerating sensitive fluorescent dyes, drugs, lipids, peptides, nucleosides, and carbohydrates. Late-stage diversification by selectivity switch in meta-c-h activation: Evidence for singlet stabilization

Ambient temperature ruthenium-catalyzed C−H arylations were accomplished by visible light without additional photocatalysts. The robustness of the ruthenium-catalyzed C−H functionalization protocol was reflected by a broad range of sensitive functional groups and synthetically useful pyrazoles, triazoles and sensitive nucleosides and nucleotides, as well as multifold C−H functionalizations. Biscyclometalated ruthenium complexes were identified as the key intermediates in the photoredox ruthenium catalysis by detailed computational and experimental mechanistic analysis. Calculations suggested that the in situ formed photoactive ruthenium species preferably underwent an inner-sphere electron transfer. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Wiley-VCH GmbH

Photo-Induced Ruthenium-Catalyzed C−H Arylations at Ambient Temperature

A catalyst-free, direct electrochemical synthesis of synthetically challenging medium-sized lactams through C-C bond cleavage has been developed. In contrast to previous typical amidyl radical cyclization, this electrosynthetic approach enabled step-economical ring expansion through a unique remote amidyl migration under mild, metal- and external-oxidant-free conditions in a simple undivided cell. The strategy features unparalleled broad substrate scope with all ring sizes of (hetero)aryl-fused 8-11-membered rings and hetero atom-tethered rings, high yields, and good functional group tolerance. Catalyst-free, direct electrochemical synthesis of annulated medium-sized lactams through C-C bond cleavage

Palladium-catalyzed regioselective di- or mono-arylation of o-carboranes was achieved using weakly coordinating amides at room temperature. Therefore, a series of B(3,4)-diarylated and B(3)-monoarylated o-carboranes anchored with valuable functional groups were accessed for the first time. This strategy provided an efficient approach for the selective activation of B(3,4)-H bonds for regioselective functionalizations of o-carboranes. This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Regioselective B(3,4)-H arylation of: O -carboranes by weak amide coordination at room temperature

This paper establishes a close relationship among the four information theoretic problems, namely Campbell source coding, Arikan guessing, Huleihel et al. memoryless guessing and Bunte and Lapidoth tasks partitioning problems. We first show that the aforementioned problems are mathematically related via a general moment minimization problem whose optimum solution is given in terms of Renyi entropy. We then propose a general framework for the mismatched version of these problems and establish all the asymptotic results using this framework. Further, we study an ordered tasks partitioning problem that turns out to be a generalisation of Arikan's guessing problem. Finally, with the help of this general framework, we establish an equivalence among all these problems, in the sense that, knowing an asymptotically optimal solution in one problem helps us find the same in all other problems.

Are Guessing, Source Coding and Tasks Partitioning Birds of a Feather?

An orientation of an undirected graph G is an assignment of exactly one direction to each edge of G. The oriented diameter of a graph G is the smallest diameter among all the orientations of G. The maximum oriented diameter of a family of graphs (formula presented) is the maximum oriented diameter among all the graphs in (formula presented). Chvátal and Thomassen [JCTB, 1978] gave a lower bound of (formula presented) and an upper bound of (formula presented) for the maximum oriented diameter of the family of 2-edge connected graphs of diameter d. We improve this upper bound to (formula presented), which outperforms the former upper bound for all values of d greater than or equal to 8. For the family of 2-edge connected graphs of diameter 3, Kwok, Liu and West [JCTB, 2010] obtained improved lower and upper bounds of 9 and 11 respectively. For the family of 2-edge connected graphs of diameter 4, the bounds provided by Chvátal and Thomassen are 12 and 40 and no better bounds were known. By extending the method we used for diameter d graphs, along with an asymmetric extension of a technique used by Chvátal and Thomassen, we have improved this upper bound to 21. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

An improvement to chvátal and thomassen’s upper bound for oriented diameter

Novel techniques are being focused on the enrichment of the performance characteristics under different machining processes. Cryogenic is one of such novel practices that tunes the surface integrity with vast variations with the traditional machining processes. Dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, material removal rate with less reduction in scrap of material is one of the prior targets of production process. Wire cut Electro Discharge Machining (WEDM) is one method that satisfy with upgrading performance characteristics. In order to step-up these performance characteristics in attaining superior quality, cryogenics practices have collaborated with the WEDM process. Present paper deals with the reviews of the researchers that have been performed over cryogenic treated WEDM process. Effect of performance characteristics like pulse on, pulse off, current, voltage, wire tension, wire feed is discussed with relation to material removal rate, tool wear rate and surface roughness evolved. Key concept of paper is to include the research ideology with best feasible techniques that can prevail in production practice in order of contribute to the forthcoming researches in industrial and production departments. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

A Role of cryogenic in Wire cut EDM process

Fly ash has been receiving the extensive concentration as a strong reinforcing element for Aluminum Matrix Composites (AMCs) to strengthen the properties and cut the price of manufacturing. AA6061 reinforced with various weight percentages of fly ash particulates and a constant weight percentage of SiC were prepared by stir casting technique as it is one of the simplest and cost-effective method for producing AMCs. Wettability of SiC and Fly ash particles with the aluminum was enhanced by fly ash itself. The microstructure, hardness and tensile properties of manufactured AMCs were analyzed. Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) discovered a harmonized dispersion of SiC and fly ash particles with superior bonding with the matrix material. The inclusion of fly ash particles in to aluminum matrix enhanced the microhardness and Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of the AMCs. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Studies on microstructure and mechanical characteristics of as cast AA6061/SiC/fly ash hybrid AMCs produced by stir casting

Road networks are susceptible to disruptions. Since disruptions on certain roads have graver impacts, critical link identification is vital in disruption preparedness. To identify critical links, most approaches systematically inject disruptions and evaluate the ensuing after-effects. Since degradation patterns are uncertain, such iterative approaches either presume knowledge of disruption patterns or try numerous patterns but soon escalate to computational impracticality on real-life road networks. This study obviates both, using a novel approach which measures the contribution of each link to a predefined operational limit on the network. It generates a criticality hierarchy on real-life networks, while on hypothetical symmetric networks it rightly identifies all links as critical. © Indian Academy of Sciences.

Identifying critical links on disruption-prone road networks: An approach that obviates scenario enumeration

Freight forecasting models have been significantly improved in recent years, especially in the field of goods vehicle behavior modeling. On the other hand, the improvements to commodity flow modeling, which provide inputs for goods vehicle simulations, were limited. Contributing to this component in urban freight modeling systems, we propose an error component logit mixture model for matching a receiver to a supplier that considers two-layers in supplier selection: distribution channels and specific suppliers. The distribution channel is an important element in freight modeling, as the type of distribution channel is relevant to various aspects of shipments and vehicle trips. The model is estimated using the data from the Tokyo Metropolitan Freight Survey. We demonstrate how typical establishment survey data (i.e. establishment and outbound shipment records) can be used to develop the model. The model captures the correlation structure of potential suppliers defined by business function and provides insights on the differences in the supplier choice by distribution channel. The reproducibility tests confirm the validity of the proposed approach, which is currently integrated into a metropolitan-scale agent-based freight modeling system, for practical use. © 2018, The Author(s).
