Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

A virtual assembly model of robotic single peg-in-hole assembly environment is developed to determine contact force using ADAMS/MATLAB Co-simulation in this work. The existing dynamic models of the insertion process are incapable of replicating the real assembly scenarios due to its complicated mathematical expressions and handling variety of dynamic parameters. In order to address this problem, a co-simulation model is proposed to study the dynamic behaviour of a planar robot in executing an assembly process. Initially, the physical robotic assembly environment with 3-R planar manipulator is built in SolidWorks and it is imported to ADAMS environment for the analysis. A Cartesian trajectory for the end-effector is given as input for executing the assembly process. Since simulation in ADAMS is executed with joint values, inverse kinematic calculations of the manipulator are employed in MATLAB environment to convert the given Cartesian descriptions into their corresponding joint descriptions. Further, the joint values are properly exchanged between these different software environments using co-simulation model to simulate the intended assembly process. Besides, the contact forces at peg end are analysed under defined lateral error condition.

Modelling of Robotic Single Peg-In-Hole Assembly Using ADAMS/MATLAB Co-simulation

A delta robot is a type of parallel robot that consists of three arms connected to universal joints at the base. Industries take advantage of these robots in packaging and pick and place operations due to its high accuracy and fastness. This three degrees of freedom robot is used in the process that automates the tea filter bags packing process through pick and place operation. Electrostatic gripper has been used as the end effectors. The tea filter bags are allowed to go through the conveyor and this delta configured robot is used for pick and place operation. This robot reduces the time complexity of the laborers and it also helps in increasing productivity by reducing the cost. Thus the tedious process becomes simpler through the delta configuration. Comparative analysis of the performance of robot with manual process is also shown in the results.

Automation and performance analysis of tea filter bags packing process using delta configured robot

This review (with 163 refs) covers the recent developments of nanomaterial-based optical and electrochemical sensors for mycotoxins. The review starts with a brief discussion on occurrence, distribution, toxicity of mycotoxins and the legislations in monitoring their levels. It further outlines the research methods, various recognition matrices and the strategies involved in the development of highly sensitive and selective sensor systems. It also points out the salient features and importance of aptasensors in the detection of mycotoxins along with the different immobilization methods of aptamers. The review meticulously discusses the performance of different optical and electrochemical sensors fabricated using aptamers coupled with nanomaterials (CNT, graphene, metal nanoparticles and metal oxide nanoparticles). The review addresses the limitations in the current developments as well as the future challenges involved in the successful construction of aptasensors with the functionalized nanomaterials. A review on recent developments in optical and electrochemical aptamer-based assays for mycotoxins using advanced nanomaterials

The aluminum alloy AA6061-4wt.% boron carbide (B4C) particulate metal matrix composites were fabricated by the stir casting method. The die-sinker electric discharge machining was performed to make the rectangular mini channels on these composites. The full factorial experimental design that consists of three input conditions, the current (I), discharge duration (T-on), and discharge idle time (T-off) at three levels each (33 = 27 total runs), was used for experimentation. The volume, V, the taper, θ (along with the depth), the lateral overcut (along the width), and the difference in depth, Δd (between total depth and depth up to the tapered profile) at entrance and exit cross-sectional profiles of the channel were considered as output responses. The θ, lateral overcut, and Δd were calculated from the entrance and exit profiles which were obtained by extracting the data points of each channel with the help of an optical profile projector. The computer-aided geometric model was developed to estimate the volume. A set of optimum electric discharge machining parameter levels were identified for maximum V and a minimum of θ, lateral overcut, and Δd. Analysis of variance was performed to identify the significant parameter and the contribution toward output responses. Results showed that the volume was found to be maximum at higher I (8 A) and lower T-On (25 µs) conditions. The taper was found to decrease with the increase in current but both lateral overcut and Δd increased. Both I and T-On are found to be the significant parameters affecting both V and Δd, whereas current is for θ and lateral overcut. In some cases, it was observed that there is a considerable difference in the θ and the lateral overcut values in the entrance and exit portions for the same channel. It is because of the randomly dispersed B4C particles which alter the material removal mechanism. © The Author(s) 2020.

A study on geometrical features of electric discharge machined channels on AA6061-4%B4C composites

Vertex deletion problems on graphs involve finding a set of minimum number of vertices whose deletion results in a graph with some specific property. In a recent study on vertex deletion problems on split graphs, it was shown that transforming a split graph to a block graph or a threshold graph using minimum number of vertex deletions is NP-hard. We call the decision version of these problems as Split to Block Vertex Deletion (SBVD) and Split to Threshold Vertex Deletion (STVD), respectively. In this paper, we study the parameterized complexity of these problems with the number of vertex deletions, k, as a parameter. Vertex deletion on split graphs: Beyond 4-hitting set

In this work, we study the electrochemical performance of Nb2CTx and Nb4C3Tx MXenes in the aqueous media and their application as a sensing platform for small biomolecules. Both Nb2CTx and Nb4C3Tx are electrochemically stable up to an anodic potential of 0.5 V. It was found that Nb4C3Tx is more electrochemically active than Nb2CTx. Based on this, Nb4C3Tx was evaluated for the electrochemical detection of aqueous media solutions containing ascorbic acid, uric acid and dopamine. This work opens the door for the wider application of Nb-based MXenes in aqueous electrochemical sensing applications.

Nb-based MXenes for efficient electrochemical sensing of small biomolecules in the anodic potential

The 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide-Tröger's base fluorophore, TBNap-TPy, adorned with phenyl-terpyridine moiety was synthesised and assessed for its aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behaviour. TBNap-TPy was further employed as a fluorescent sensor for the discriminative sensing of π-electron-deficient nitroaromatic; the TBNap-TPy displaying the largest fluorescence quenching with high selectivity for picric acid, a harmful environmental pollutant widely used in the dye industries. Aggregation induced emission (AIE) active 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide-Tröger's base for the selective sensing of chemical explosives in competitive aqueous media

A five level inverter topology with single DC supply is analysed for an open end winding induction motor (OEWIM) drive. A carrier based modulation scheme is proposed to eliminate the common mode (CMV) and differential mode voltages (DMV). The modulation scheme utilises the voltage vector and switching state redundancy of the inverter topology. The voltage vector redundancy is used to eliminate the DMV and switching state redundancy is used to eliminate the CMV. Compared to the conventional level shifted PWM method, the proposed modulation scheme offers improved harmonic performance and also ensures self-balancing of capacitor voltages. The simulation studies are carried out in MATLAB for an OEWIM drive operating with open-loop constant Volts-per-Hertz control. The modulation scheme is implemented using TMS320F28379D controller board and an FPGA module. © 2020 EPE Association.

Modulation scheme with common mode and differential mode voltage elimination for a five level inverter fed open end winding induction motor drive

Detection of a weak signal in additive Generalized Cauchy (GC) noise is important in many applications. The locally optimum detector (LOD) for a weak signal in GC noise is nonlinear in nature. When noise variance is unknown, the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) is nonlinear and the resultant detector is complicated. Since VLSI implementation of complex nonlinearities is a challenging task, we develop an order statistics framework for detection in GC noise. We propose linear and ratio detectors, for weak signals in GC noise with known and unknown but deterministic variance, respectively. We provide extensive simulation results to show that performance loss of proposed linear and ratio detectors, is very small compared to LOD and nonlinear detector using MLE, respectively. We propose SORT - N (for running ordering of samples) and its VLSI architecture, using which we develop two-stage VLSI architectures for proposed linear and ratio detectors. Synthesis results for arbitrary waveform case indicate, for same throughput and latency, linear detector consumes lesser area to LOD, upto a sample size of N=64. For same throughput, ratio detector renders substantial area savings (≈50%) over nonlinear detector using MLE, for any N. Finally, we propose a reconfigurable architecture for efficient realization of all the detectors. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Area Efficient VLSI Architectures for Weak Signal Detection in Additive Generalized Cauchy Noise

Electrochemical metallization (ECM)-based resistive switching devices with very small inter-electrode distances have recently been reported. These devices have very low switching voltages (sub-1V), fast switching times and low switching energies. Ab-initio simulations predict low device failure for these devices. In this work, we model the dynamic characteristics of ECM-based memristors (implemented in Verilog-A), with a focus on simulating the switching delays during SET and RESET processes and calculating the energy consumption during switching. We have compared the simulation results obtained using our model, with experimental data available in literature. © 2020 IEEE.
