Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

We discuss properties of pseudospectrum and condition spectrum of an element in a complex unital Banach algebra and its -perturbation. Several results are proved about linear maps preserving pseudospectrum/ condition spectrum. These include the following: (1) Let A, B be complex unital Banach algebras and  > 0. Let : A  B be an -pseudospectrum preserving linear onto map. Then  preserves spectrum. If A and B are uniform algebras, then,  is an isometric isomorphism. (2) Let A, B be uniform algebras and 0 <  < 1. Let : A  B be an -condition spectrum preserving linear map. Then  is an -almost multiplicative map, where ,  tend to zero simultaneously.

Linear maps preserving pseudospectrum and condition spectrum

The transverse-field XY model in one dimension is a well-known spin model for which the ground state properties and excitation spectrum are known exactly. The model has an interesting phase diagram describing quantum phase transitions (QPTs) belonging to two different universality classes. These are the transverse-field Ising model and the XX model universality classes with both the models being special cases of the transverse-field XY model. In recent years, quantities related to quantum information theoretic measures like entanglement, quantum discord (QD) and fidelity have been shown to provide signatures of QPTs. Another interesting issue is that of decoherence to which a quantum system is subjected due to its interaction, represented by a quantum channel, with an environment. In this paper, we determine the dynamics of different types of correlations present in a quantum system, namely, the mutual information I (ρAB), the classical correlations C (ρAB) and the quantum correlations Q(ρAB), as measured by the quantum discord, in a two-qubit state. The density matrix of this state is given by the nearest-neighbour reduced density matrix obtained from the ground state of the transverse-field XY model in 1d. We assume Markovian dynamics for the time-evolution due to system-environment interactions. The quantum channels considered include the bit-flip, bit-phase-flip and phase-flip channels. Two different types of dynamics are identified for the channels in one of which the quantum correlations are greater in magnitude than the classical correlations in a finite time interval. The origins of the different types of dynamics are further explained. For the different channels, appropriate quantities associated with the dynamics of the correlations are identified which provide signatures of QPTs. Approximate Aggregate Utility Maximization in Multi-Hop Wireless Networks using Distributed Greedy Scheduling

Over the years, the chip power density has been increased exponentially due to the increasingly complicated circuit architecture as well as the continuous miniaturization of the transistor feature size. High power consumption has directly translated to high chip temperature which adversely affects the system performance/reliability and increases the cooling/packaging costs. Moreover, high chip temperature also elevates the leakage power consumption, which further augments the overall power consumption and thus the operating temperature. In this paper, we incorporate the leakage/temperature dependency as well as the nonnegligible transition overhead into analysis and present a novel real-time speed scheduling algorithm, namely M-Oscillating, that can reduce the peak temperature of a system when executing a hard real-time periodic task set. We analytically prove the correctness of the proposed algorithm based on a processor model that can effectively account for the leakage/temperature relationship. We validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm by comparing it with the existing work on two platforms. The first platform is a C/Matlab based chip-level thermal/power simulator, and the second platform is a more practical one built based on a desktop computer running SPEC CPU2000 benchmark programs. The experimental results obtained from both platforms demonstrate the superiority of the proposed M-Oscillating scheme over the existing approach in peak temperature reduction and feasibility improvement. Leakage aware scheduling on maximum temperature minimization for periodic hard real-time systems

The boxicity (cubicity) of a graph G, denoted by box(G) (respectively cub(G)), is the minimum integer k such that G can be represented as the intersection graph of axis parallel boxes (cubes) in ℝk. The problem of computing boxicity (cubicity) is known to be inapproximable in polynomial time even for graph classes like bipartite, co-bipartite and split graphs, within an O(n0.5-ε) factor for any ε &gt; 0, unless NP = ZPP. We prove that if a graph G on n vertices has a clique on n - k vertices, then box(G) can be computed in time n22 O(k2 log k). Using this fact, various FPT approximation algorithms for boxicity are derived. The parameter used is the vertex (or edge) edit distance of the input graph from certain graph families of bounded boxicity - like interval graphs and planar graphs. Using the same fact, we also derive an O(n√log log n/√ log n) factor approximation algorithm for computing boxicity, which, to our knowledge, is the first o(n) factor approximation algorithm for the problem. We also present an FPT approximation algorithm for computing the cubicity of graphs, with vertex cover number as the parameter. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Polynomial time and parameterized approximation algorithms for boxicity

Bidirectional cargo transport by molecular motors in cells is a complex phenomenon in which the cargo (usually a vesicle) alternately moves in retrograde and anterograde directions. In this case, teams of oppositely pulling motors (e.g., kinesin and dynein) bind to the cargo, simultaneously, and coordinate their activity such that the motion consists of spells of positively and negatively directed segments, separated by pauses of varying duration. A set of recent experiments have analyzed the bidirectional motion of endosomes in the amoeba D. discoideum in detail. It was found that in between directional switches, a team of five to six dyneins stall a cargo against a stronger kinesin in a tug of war, which lasts for almost a second. As the mean detachment time of a kinesin under its stall load was also observed to be 1s, we infer that the collective detachment time of the dynein assembly must also be similar. Here, we analyze this inference from a modeling perspective, using experimentally measured single-molecule parameters as inputs. We find that the commonly assumed exponential load-dependent detachment rate is inconsistent with observations, as it predicts that a five-dynein assembly will detach under its combined stall load in less than a hundredth of a second. A modified model where the load-dependent unbinding rate is assumed to saturate at stall-force level for super-stall loads gives results which are in agreement with experimental data. Our analysis suggests that the load-dependent detachment of a dynein in a team is qualitatively different at sub-stall and super-stall loads, a conclusion which is likely to have implications in other situations involving collective effects of many motors. © 2012 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Effectiveness of a dynein team in a tug of war helped by reduced load sensitivity of detachment: Evidence from the study of bidirectional endosome transport in D. discoideum

Positioning the parturient from supine to the left lateral tilt position (supine-to-tilt) may not effectively displace the gravid uterus, but turning from the left lateral position to the left lateral tilt position (left lateral-to-tilt) may keep the gravid uterus displaced and prevent aortocaval compression. Fifty-one full-term parturients were randomly placed in the left lateral position, supine-to-tilt and left lateral-to-tilt positions using a Crawford wedge. Femoral vein area, femoral vein velocity, femoral artery area, pulsatility index, resistance index and right arm mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate were recorded. Our results showed a lower mean (SD) femoral vein area (82.2 (14.9) vs 96.2 (16.4) mm2), a lower pulsatility index (3.83 (1.3) vs 5.8 (2.2)), a lower resistance index (0.93 (0.06) vs 0.98 (0.57)), a higher femoral artery area (33.3 (3.8) vs 30.9 (4.4) mm2) and a higher femoral vein velocity (7.9 (1.2) vs 6.1 (1.6) cm.s-1) with left lateral-to-tilt when compared with supine-to-tilt (all p < 0.001). Our results suggest that moving a full-term parturient from the full left lateral to the lateral tilt position may prevent aortocaval compression in full-term parturients more efficiently than when positioning the parturient from a supine to left lateral tilt position.

Effect of positioning from supine and left lateral positions to left lateral tilt on maternal blood flow velocities and waveforms in full-term parturients

Cancer prognosis prediction improves the quality of treatment and increases the survivability of the patients. Conventional methods of cancer prediction deal with single class by limiting the prognosis prediction to one response variable. The SEER Public Use cancer database has more prominent variables that support better prediction approach. The objective of this paper is to find the prominent labels from cancer databases and use them in a multi-class environment. The implementation consist of three phases namely, pre-processing, prominent label identification and multi-label classification. Breast, Colorectal and Respiratory Cancer Data sets have been used for the experimentation. Also random samples from all three data sets are generated to form a mixed cancer data. Patient survival, number of primaries and age at diagnosis are the prominent labels identified from others using the Decision tree, Naive Bayes and KNN algorithms. The three prominent labels have been tested using multi-label RAkEL algorithm to find the relations between them. The results of the empirical study are comparatively better than the traditional way of cancer prediction.

Prominent Label Identification and Multi-label Classification for Cancer Prognosis Prediction

Coumarins C-153, C-480, and C-1 formed 1:2 (guest:host) complexes ith a watersoluble cavitand having eight carboxylic acid groups (OA) in aqueous borate buffer solution. The complexes were photoexcited in the presence of electron acceptors (methyl viologen, MV 2+, or TiO 2) to probe the possibility of electron transfer between a donor and an acceptor physically separated by a molecular wall. In solution at basic pH, the dication MV 2+ was associated to the exterior of the complex C-153@OA 2, as suggested by diffusion constants (?1.2 × 10- 6 cm2/s) determined by DOSY NMR. The fluorescence of C-153@OA 2 was quenched in the presence of increasing amounts of MV 2+ and Stern-Volmer plots of Io/I and ?o/? vs [MV 2+] indicated that the quenching was static. As per FT-IR-ATR spectra, the capsule C-153@OA 2 was bound to TiO 2 nanoparticle films. Selective excitation (?exc = 420) of the above bound complex resulted in fluorescence quenching. When adsorbed on insulating ZrO 2 nanoparticle films, excitation of the complex resulted in a broad fluorescence spectrum centered at 500 nm and consistent with C-153 being within the lipophilic capsule interior. Consistent with the above results, colloidal TiO 2 quenched the emission while colloidal ZrO 2 did not. © 2012 American Chemical Society.

Photoinduced electron transfer across a molecular wall: Coumarin dyes as donors and methyl viologen and TiO 2 as acceptors

CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T cells (Treg) have emerged as a dominant T cell population inhibiting anti-tumor effector T cells. Initial strategies used for Treg-depletion (cyclophosphamide, anti-CD25 mAb...) also targeted activated T cells, as they share many phenotypic markers. Current, ameliorated approaches to inhibit Treg aim to either block their function or their migration to lymph nodes and the tumor microenvironment. Various drugs originally developed for other therapeutic indications (anti-angiogenic molecules, tyrosine kinase inhibitors,etc) have recently been discovered to inhibit Treg. These approaches are expected to be rapidly translated to clinical applications for therapeutic use in combination with immunomodulators. © 2012 Landes Bioscience.
