Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad&nbsp;(IIT Palakkad or IIT PKD) is a public autonomous&nbsp;engineering&nbsp;and&nbsp;research&nbsp;institute located in&nbsp;Palakkad,&nbsp;Kerala. It was&nbsp;one of the five new&nbsp;IITs&nbsp;proposed in the&nbsp;2014 Union budget of India. The campus was inaugurated on 3 August 2015. The institute has 94 faculty, 978 students, and 63 non-teaching staffs.

IT Palakkad currently offers four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and two years MS programmes in 8 different engineering disciplines including&nbsp;Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil among others.

We consider the (r, l)-Partization problem of finding a set of at most k vertices whose deletion results in a graph that can be partitioned into r independent sets and l cliques. Restricted to perfect graphs and split graphs, we describe sequacious fixed-parameter tractability results for (r, 0)-Partization, parameterized by k and r. For (r, l)-Partization where r+l = 2, we describe an O*(2k) algorithm for perfect graphs. We then study the parameterized complexity hardness of a generalization of the Above Guarantee Vertex Cover by a reduction from (r, l)-Partization.

Parameterized algorithms for (r, l)-Partization

Molecular motors are specialized proteins that perform active, directed transport of cellular cargoes on cytoskeletal filaments. In many cases, cargo motion powered by motor proteins is found to be bidirectional, and may be viewed as a biased random walk with fast unidirectional runs interspersed with slow tug-of-war states. The statistical properties of this walk are not known in detail, and here, we study memory and bias, as well as directional correlations between successive runs in bidirectional transport. We show, based on a study of the direction-reversal probabilities of the cargo using a purely stochastic (tug-of-war) model, that bidirectional motion of cellular cargoes is, in general, a correlated random walk. In particular, while the motion of a cargo driven by two oppositely pulling motors is a Markovian random walk, memory of direction appears when multiple motors haul the cargo in one or both directions. In the latter case, the Markovian nature of the underlying single-motor processes is hidden by internal transitions between degenerate run and pause states of the cargo. Interestingly, memory is found to be a nonmonotonic function of the number of motors. Stochastic numerical simulations of the tug-of-war model support our mathematical results and extend them to biologically relevant situations. © 2013 American Physical Society.

In this paper, we present local equilibrium configuration controllability analysis of a spherical robot. The robot is actuated by the principle of displacing the center of gravity of the system using an internal mechanism. The system is defined on a trivial principal fiber bundle, characterized by base body motion and the shape dynamics, and the equations of motion are in the form of the nonholonomic Euler-Poincaré equation with advected dynamics. Using Lie brackets and symmetric products of the potential and control vector fields, local configuration accessibility and local (fiber) equilibrium controllability are presented. © 2013 IEEE.

Emerging and reemerging viral diseases of livestock and human beings are in sharp rise in recent years. Importantly, many of these viruses, including influenza, Hendra, Nipah and corona are of zoonotic importance. Several viral diseases of livestock such as bluetongue, peste des petits ruminants, camel pox, equine infectious anaemia, chicken anaemia and sheep-associated malignant catarrhal fever are crossing their traditional boundaries. Emergence of new serotypes and variant forms of viruses as in the case of blue tongue virus, avian infectious bronchitis virus, Newcastle disease virus adds additional level of complexity. The increased incidence of emerging and reemerging viral diseases could be attributed to several factors including deforestation and surge in direct contact of livestock and humans with wild animals and birds. This special issue of "Indian Journal of Virology" is focused on diverse aspects of above diseases: isolation and characterization of viruses, epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention measures and vaccine development. © Indian Virological Society 2013.

Purpose: Th17 cells and their cytokines play a critical role in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Recently, we have demonstrated that intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) suppresses differentiation, amplification, and functions of human Th17 cells. In this report we investigated whether IVIG inhibits IL-17 production by Th17 cells cultured in the presence of IL-23 and whether the inhibitory effect of IVIG on IL-17 production implicates anti-IL-17 antibodies. Methods: Naive CD4+ T cells were stimulated in the presence of TGF-β, IL-21, and IL-23 for the differentiation of Th17 cells. Memory CD4+ T cells were stimulated with IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-23 for the amplification of Th17 cells. IVIG (0.15 mM) was added to the cells 12 h after initiation of cultures. IL-17A cytokine and anti-IL-17 antibodies were measured by ELISA. Results: IL-23 did not deter the inhibitory effect of IVIG on IL-17 production from the differentiating and expanding Th17 cells. Further, suppression of IL-17 by IVIG did not implicate anti-IL-17 antibodies in the immunoglobulin preparations. Conclusion: The effect of IVIG on the inhibition of IL-17 production by Th17 cells is a consequence of modulation of Th17 cells and their intracellular signaling pathways and not due to passive neutralization of IL-17 by anti-IL-17 antibodies in the immunoglobulin preparations. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.

Inhibitory effect of IVIG on IL-17 production by th17 cells is independent of Anti-IL-17 antibodies in the immunoglobulin preparations

Naturally occurring autoantibodies (NAbs) with germline or close to germline configurations are specific to self- and altered self-components, and they exist in the serum of healthy individuals, independent of deliberate immunization with a target antigen. Human intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) consists of pooled immunoglobulin (IgG) from several thousand healthy volunteers. In addition to immune deficiency, IVIg is used in the treatment of several autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. The polyreactive, low- to moderate-affinity but high-avidity NAbs are an important part of the composition of IVIg. It is well established that NAbs play a significant role in maintaining tissue and immune homeostasis in a healthy individual. It is thus conceivable that NAbs present within IVIg may participate in exerting the beneficial effects observed during the course of treatment of patients with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Understanding the mechanisms by which NAbs operate under different clinical settings is of critical significance. In this chapter, we summarize the roles of NAbs in IVIg.
